At Durrah, we process raw sugar the latest technology, making our production process unique and environmentally-friendly. Our refinery plant is equipped with multiple facilities and operates as per EEC2-Standard.
Production Phases
Step No.1:
Harvesting
Sugarcanes are typically harvested by an automated machine when they are fully grown and mature, usually after 18-12 months (About 1 and a half year) of growth.
Step No.2:
Sugar Extraction
The harvested canes are then transported to the sugar mill were they are cleaned are then crushed. The extracted juice is clarified, concentrated, and crystalized as raw sugar.
Step No.3:
Transportation
After being produced in the sugar mill, the raw sugar is transported to the Durrah sugar refinery for further purification, where it undergoes a crucial process that transforms it into the high-quality product we know.
Step No.4:
Remelting
The raw sugar is then melted with hot water and heated with steam to obtain the syrup with a defined concentration and temperature.
Step No.5:
Purification
Natural purifiers are introduced into the liquid sugar mixture to eliminate impurities through a precipitation reaction, the resulting precipitate then undergoes filtration through a series of filters.
Step No.6:
Decolorization & Evaporation
The filtered syrup runs through Ion exchange columns to clarify the syrup, before concentrating it with a triple-effect film evaporated. This process reduces environmental impact and increases crystallization efficiency.
Step No.7:
Crystallization
The concentrated syrup is then transferred to vacuum pans where it undergoes a process called crystallization by evaporation under vacuum. The sugar syrup is boiled until it forms white sugar crystals with the required size and color.
Step No.8:
Drying & Cooling
The sugar crystals are then dried to remove the remaining moisture. This is done using hot air, in large drying chambers. Then, the sugar is cooled to the necessary storage temperature by dehumidifying and chilling the surrounding air.
Step No.9:
Maturation
The sugar is then stored in a carefully controlled environment at allow it to develop and attain its optimal quality and characteristics.
Step No.10:
Packaging
Finally, the sugar is carefully packaged through fully automated lines bags of various sizes, before being distributed to food manufactures, distributors, or grocery stores
